The original building was completed in the late 1700s as Trinity Church, then later converted into a synagogue in the late 1800s with multiple renovations throughout the 20th century. Temple B’nai Adath Beth Kol Yisrael took ownership in the 1960s.
In recent years, there has been deterioration and structural failure of the eastern wall and as a result, the congregation has been unable to attain full use of their sanctuary and suppport spaces. Landau|Zinder is working to restore and repair the existing enclosure, as well as renovate and improve the interior spaces to be historic in nature, yet up to date in amenities.
The multi-phased temple restoration project includes master planning and building analysis, as well as updates to accessibility, such as a new elevator and ADA-compliant restrooms. To meet the congregation’s growing needs, Landau|Zinder is working to improve circulation and allow for greater flexibility for educational and mixed-use events. In addition, the sanctuary and lobby is being renovated to accommodate a greater capacity. Increasing the amount of natural light in the sanctuary is another priority, as well as updating the building’s systems. Read more here.
